How do you put into words what roads life has taken you on for the past year? You can list surgeries and awards and trips or lack thereof, but what do you REALLY want to say? All of our kids are wonderful, all have accomplishments and victories and struggles too. What matters and what doesn't? For us, our faith is our biggest accomplishment and our daily goal. Following the call of Christ no matter what the world says. For us, we took a different path a few years ago and that has led us into a world so foreign and yet so dear to us now. We gave up comfort and predictability to an extent. We took on risk and utter heartbreak. We added chaos and countless work. We agreed more education and subsequently began more support of others in our journey. We stretched and we marched forward, weary and confused, full of joy and full of struggles, full of life and full of changes. Our lives are no longer the same and we wouldn't march backwards for anything. Our family has grown in ways we would have denied, learned in ways we couldn't comprehend, loved people we would have never known had we not stepped willingly into another world outside our small little well-kept circle. We love deeper, play harder, cry and laugh with reckless abandon and grasp the beauty of simplicity in the mundane. We are ordinary and weary and yet ready to grab this life by the horns and run straight to the arms of Jesus with every breath AND with every life. Life is not about rest and comfort and ease. It's about a race, a marathon, really. Full out with everything you have. A race to the cross, the reality of the empty tomb and the life Jesus has in store for us. Run with him and run to him as fast as you can. There you will find true rest.
