Devotional: Let’s Not Major in the Minors
📖 Matthew 23:23
“You have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.”
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for obsessing over small details while missing what mattered most. It’s still easy to do. Our days fill up fast—social media, comparison, noise, and nonstop tasks. Some responsibilities are necessary, but many distractions quietly pull our hearts away from Jesus and what is truly important.
The enemy doesn’t always need a crisis to derail us. Distraction will do.
Jesus calls us to share His message—not only with words, but with a life that reflects Him. That kind of witness is built in ordinary minutes: how we respond under pressure, how we love our family, how we steward our time, how we choose peace over chaos.
To stay focused, we have to invest in what isn’t always urgent, but is deeply effective:
time with Jesus
intentional relationships
planning and preparation with real goals
renewing our minds by learning and growing
rest that truly restores through sleep or recreation that allows stress to reduce
God doesn’t call us to constant chaos. Satan creates that! Order isn’t about perfection or the newest organizing system—it’s about creating space for what matters: connection, health, peace, and a life that isn’t always in “catch-up mode.”
📖 Philippians 1:10
“…so that you may be able to discern what is best…”
Not what is loud. Not what is urgent. What is best.
Ask Jesus to show you what matters today. You won’t do all the things—but you can do the right things.
📖 Colossians 3:2
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Emergencies and deadlines will come. But a life rooted in Jesus, preparation, and purpose won’t be controlled by every interruption.
Let’s not major in the minors. God isn’t playing in the minor leagues—and He hasn’t called us to either.
Reflection & Action (Leave space to write)
1-Minute Reset
Set a timer for one minute. Breathe. Relax your shoulders. Meditate on one verse.
What is crowding my mind right now?
Can I do something about it today? (Yes/No)
If no: I release it to Jesus.
If yes: write the next step.
Next step:
When will I do it?
Proactive in 12 Minutes
Choose one small action today (set a 10-minute timer + 2 minutes to finish). Maybe this is organizing your work desk, tidying a room, clearing your car or prepping it for activities. Don’t do anything else in this time. Add this as an evening activity with kids every night.
My 12-minute proactive task:
Time With the Lord
3 things I can praise God for today: You have more things than you can imagine even in the midst of hard stuff.
3 people I will pray for today: Someone needs you to intercede for them right now.
Major League vs. Minor League
Major League (what truly matters):
Minor League (what can wait or doesn’t matter): Really think on this one…….
Move around for a few seconds. Close with a deep breath and relax your shoulders. Repeat.
Step into this moment with Jesus at the center.
